My Birthday CAKE

For those who go to practice with me, and go a lot, and have been with me day in and day out, they know that one of my obsessions is... cake.  I love the stuff.  Because I swim, I can get away with it.  My mom and I worked on my cake together.... well she did most of it and I decorated the teddy bears.  It turned out really cute!  It has a pool with teddies all around and gummie life savers for innertubes.

My mom has some more on her blog too.  Aren't they too stinkin' adorable?!

Fighting Hunger

Today I had to earn 500 grains of rice on free rice.com for part of school.  All I had to do was click on the answers to the multiplication fact and boom- 10 grains of rice in my bowl.  Then I went and got a snack.

But so many people can't just get up from their comfy chair and get a banana or soup or whatever.  Did you know that every six seconds a child dies because of hunger and related causes?  That's a lot of kids.  But there are lots of ways to help.

Visit WFP for lots of information and ways you can help.  Did you know 25 cents can fill one of their red cups- food for someone far away for a day?

http://www.wfp.org/

Now lets say that 20 of you readers go onto free rice and do 21 problems this week, that's 3 a day.  That's 4,200 grains of rice!  This is my favorite site for helping stop hunger... visit it today!

Would you like to know where the rice goes?  Check this out-

Where does FreeRice rice go? WFP United Nations World Food Programme - Fighting Hunger Worldwide

Finally, here are some of the stats on hunger I copied from the WFP site~

GLOBAL HUNGER

1.02 billion people do not have enough to eat - more than the populations of USA, Canada and the European Union;

(Source: FAO news release, 19 June 2009)

The number of undernourished people in the world increased by 75 million in 2007 and 40 million in 2008, largely due to higher food prices;

(Source: FAO news release, 9 Dec 2008)

907 million people in developing countries alone are hungry;

(Source: The State of Food Insecurity in the World, FAO, 2008)

Asia and the Pacific region is home to over half the world’s population and nearly two thirds of the world’s hungry people;

(Source: The State of Food Insecurity in the World, FAO, 2008)

More than 60 percent of chronically hungry people are women;

(Source: The State of Food Insecurity in the World, FAO, 2006)

65 percent of the world's hungry live in only seven countries: India, China, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan and Ethiopia.

(Source: The State of Food Insecurity in the World, FAO, 2008)

CHILD HUNGER

Every six seconds a child dies because of hunger and related causes;

(Source: State of Food Insecurity in the World, FAO, 2004)

More than 70 percent of the world's 146 million underweight children under age five years live in just 10 countries, with more than 50 per cent located in South Asia alone;

(Source: Progress for Children: A Report Card on Nutrition, UNICEF, 2006)

10.9 million children under five die in developing countries each year. Malnutrition and hunger-related diseases cause 60 percent of the deaths;

(Source: The State of the World's Children, UNICEF, 2007)

The cost of undernutrition to national economic development is estimated at US$20-30 billion per annum;

(Source: Progress for Children: A Report Card on Nutrition, UNICEF, 2006)

One out of four children - roughly 146 million - in developing countries are underweight;

(Source: The State of the World's Children, UNICEF, 2007)

Every year WFP feeds more than 20 million children in school feeding programmes in some 70 countries. In 2008, WFP fed a record 23 million children.

Foodie Friday

Hi! Well, the first week of school is over! My favorite parts and our highlights were the random experiment Monday, our art lesson today, and foodie Friday. What is foodie Friday?, you blog readers may ask. Well, every Friday my mom and I will try to make a new recipe, and also every Friday (or day after, I may let it slide) I will do a post about it and show you guys the yummy fun of foodie Friday :D

Well, this week we made potato soup. I just love soups, potato soup being one of my favorites! I helped with everything, peeling and mashing the potatos, cutting up the onions, (which I did for about 2 seconds before I quit and asked Dad to do it for me) measuring most of the stuff, and just making it! It was a lot of fun. The soup only had onion, milk, potato, corn starch and flour, salt and pepper, and butter! If that doesn't sound good already, top it off with BACON and CHEESE and you are in hog heaven! The pictures from this week's foodie Friday are above all of the text! This is so unusual for me, because most of the time I put the pictures below the text. I just feel adventurous today! :D

That's all for now, check back soon for Duncan doing crazy pointing guy!

Relays and (More) Cookies!

Hi! I have a bit of catching up to do, so here it goes!

Saturday was the Chagrin Relays. I went to watch my brother, Mason, and to hang out with the Twinsburg rec. team. Although I can't blog about how everyone on the Twinsburg team did, over all they did great! Mason took 2 3rds and 3 4ths. So, good job everyone who swam at the relays!

*************Cookies**************
I made cookies today! I also made some a few days ago... but sadly I have no pictures.

Yum!

This is my 50th blog post! That is a lot of blogging!

Now, I wanted to tell you about my new search thing I added, by Google. If you are looking for a post in particular, then this really helps. If you are looking for a swim meet, put Swim Meets, birthdays, Birthday, ummmm... School, fish, cookies, etc. I also uploaded a new background and removed my hit counter, so I hope it will load a bit faster for yours if you are having trouble... On my computer when I was getting on, my hit counter was the thing that was taking a lot of time to load.

I think that's all, bye!

Cookies!

Hi! I was making cookies yesterday (once every 5 years or so:) and my brother said we should just take a video of us just testing the cookies. So we did, and now that I see it, it is funny how all of our personalities shine through. Here is that~~~~~>

Here is the recipe, because it seemed like a lot of people liked them at practice that day :D~~>

Almond Cookies
2 Oct 2006
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon vanilla
½ teaspoon almond extract
2 cups all purpose flour, sifted
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup coarsely chopped almonds
¼ cup whole unpeeled almonds

Makes approximately 2 dozen cookies.

Preheat the oven by turning it on to 350 degrees.

In a mixer, or a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until it’s fluffy. If using an electric mixer, after about 30 seconds you can see that the mixture is very fluffy. Then add the egg, vanilla, almond extract, flour, salt, and the chopped almonds to the mix. Once all the dry ingredients have been added, mix everything together.

Once all of the ingredients have been mixed well together, pull off little pieces of the dough and roll them into balls that are about 1 inch in diameter. Put the balls about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Then place a whole almond in the middle of each cookie ball and push it down slightly. When the cookie sheet is filled, put the cookie sheet in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
The cookies should look lightly brown when they’re done.

Bye!

Oh no! A recipe post!

Hiya! I decided that today I am going to do a recipe post. Here are my reasons~~>

  • I am bored.

  • I always wanted to do a recipe post!

  • It is way yummers!

So, here is what you need~

  1. English Muffins

  2. Tomato Sauce

  3. Shredded Cheese

  4. Toppings, like mushrooms!

  5. A pan

Yep, we're making mini pizzas! I have pics for all of the steps, here is how you make it~

Cut the english muffins in 1/2. Each 1/2 will be 1 pizza. Put them on a pan. Now put a big glob of tomato sauce on each. (1) Spread it out. (2) Now top with cheese and whatever else you want on it! (3) Pre-heat the stove to 350, and then pop them in for 10 min. Tada! VERY tasty mini pizzas! (4)
